Date: Thursday, August 11, 2016

Time: 11:00am PT / 12:00pm MT / 1:00pm CT / 2:00pm ET

Presenter(s):  Mark Kaiser, UC Berkeley

In this webinar we will discuss a variety of ways that film clips cut from feature films can be used in the foreign language curriculum, contrasting feature film to “talking heads” video, on the one hand, and literary texts on the other. We will examine through homework assignments and classroom tasks how film clips might be used to develop students’ linguistic, cultural, and symbolic competencies, as well as the development of their visual literacy. Finally, we will introduce the BLC’s Library of Film Clips, a free resource of 17,000 clips in 25 languages, tagged for cultural and linguistic content.
