PRESIDENT’S LETTER – AUGUST 1, 2018

Dear fellow IALLTers,

I hope that your summer is going well! I wanted to send you a few updates on what is going on with IALLT these days.

We are excited about the upcoming IALLT Summit, which will take place on August 3 and 4, 2018, in Eugene Oregon as well as online via Zoom. The IALLT Summit (formerly the Summer Leadership Meeting) is held every even year to conduct the business of the IALLT organization, visit the site of the next biennial conference, and provide an opportunity for member input. The Summit affords an opportunity to review IALLT’s activities, chart the organization’s path for the future, and network with colleagues. More info can be found on the Summit page, which will be updated in the coming days (agenda will be published there soon): https://iallt.org/iallt-2019/2018-summit/

I am very excited to officially announce that FLTMAG, the free magazine on technology integration in language teaching and learning, is now part of the IALLT publications portfolio. Founded in 2013 by Edwige Simon, a long-term IALLTer and Director of the Graduate Certificate in Language Teaching with Technology at CU Boulder, the magazine will complement IALLT’s offerings, such as the IALLT Journal, the webinars, and IALLT-published books. The recent July 2018 issue is the biggest ever created. We are still working on integrating and branding the FLTMAG more. We encourage you to submit a manuscript to the magazine. More information can be found here: http://fltmag.com

The “Language Center Handbook” will be available very soon. This new publication, which is edited by Betsy Lavolette and Edwige Simon, combines the Language Center Design and the Language Center Management books. A separate message will go out very soon, with links to this exciting new publication.

The LLTI list-serve has been experiencing technical difficulties since early June 2018, where some subscribers are not receiving approved messages.  While the hosting institution is currently working on the problem, we are also looking at other, more permanent solutions. Please follow IALLT’s social media channels for updated information. You can also look at the complete LLTI archive if you have not been able to receive recent messages: https://iallt.org/resources/llti-listserv/

One last personal remark: I will be moving on to Michigan State University in early August, where I will direct the Center for Language Teaching Advancement (CeLTA). If you wish to contact me, please send a message to my personal email or to president@iallt.org .

Enjoy your last days of summer. I wish you all the best for the upcoming fall semester.

Cheers,

Felix
